Eithne Jordan (b 1954) graduated from Dun Laoghaire School of Art in the late 1970s, she was painting crisply composed abstracts that displayed a bold, accurate colour sense. Then, in the 1980s, she turned to figuration with a series of Swimmer pictures in which a female figure blends with undulating water currents. After going to Berlin on a DAAD scholarship, she moved into a darker region of the palette, but the mood of her work has lightened somewhat since she moved to France in the early 1990s.
