Working wet on wet – pouring gloss paint onto a surface of oil paint - Harding causes the grid to slide across the substrate. As the skin puckers and sometimes tears, the element of disruption depends on the degree of energy with which the artist works. The resulting relationship between the support and its sloughed skin could be seen as a diptych. The two parts are one whole; there is a rhythm between them that allows us to trust in the integrity of the painting.
