New Paintings
Ronni Hughes
As a painter what interests me most is plasticity – not only with regard to inherent formal qualities and processes but also in terms of material and, primarily, meaning. I strive for paintings to become signifiers for a myriad of simultaneous, sometimes contradictory, ideas and reference points. Customarily I produce synthetic forms which take their cues from nature but which resonate with cultural associations. I see the recent body of work as a plethora of ‘corrupted’ abstractions that meander through various modes of representation: Debased scientific diagrams meet cartoon-like anatomical references in an amalgam that seeks curious viewers for long-term relationships. more than anything
Maud Cotter
Sculpture
A major exhibition of the work of Maud Cotter opened at the Model in September 2004. The exhibition of new work is comprised of major sculptural installations. For example, more than anything, from which the exhibition takes its title, is a complex work composed of thousands of die-cut squares of veneered plywood which will be assembled into a huge structure that seems to 'infest' several galleries at The Model. A catalogue will be available following the exhibition with an introduction written by Angelika Richter, director of Werkleitz Gesellschaft, Halle, Germany and one of the curators of the Liverpool Biennial 2002. The exhibition will tour to Wales in 2005 and is sponsored by CCAT, and the Rubicon Gallery.

True to its commitment of increasing its funds every year to build up a wide and comprehensible collection in a global context, Artium presents in the exhibition New Acquisitions, 2003, the works which have been added to the museums collection during 2003.

Lineage
Tom Molloy
Painting
A joint exhibition with Christopher Banahan. Although not completely familiar with each other's practice, both have done work in relation to portraiture, in terms of the history of the oeuvre and they have both re-examined the art of portraiture, but in different ways. Lineage is their corresponding and contrasting insight into the notion of ancestry, history, inheritance, power, society and politics. Tom Molloy, will be exhibiting a series of paintings entitled colleagues. These are portraits of RUC police officers killed during the course of 'the troubles' in Northern Ireland.
