Rhona Byrne
Rhona Byrne was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1972 and lives and works in Dublin.
She graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 1994 with an honours degree in fine art sculpture. Rhona uses a variety of media in her practice; photography, film, sculpture and installation. She also works on self initiated participatory projects in the public domain. Her work often responds to a particular place or situation, examining everyday existence and relationships to the urban environment as individuals and through collective experience, exploring the psychological, emotional and cultural relationship we have with our environment.
Rhona has exhibited extensively in Ireland and internationally including, The Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery Dublin, Broadstone Gallery Dublin, Gallery for One Dublin, The Concourse Dunlaoighre, The Lab Dublin, Superbia 2 Cork and internationally; Billboart Gallery Europe, presented in 13 European capital cities, Haus der Archectur Graz, Transformation, Serbia Montenegro, Kliniczna, Poland and Art scene warehouse, Shanghai, China. Rhona has to date completed awarded artist residency programs, at the fire station artists studios, Dublin 2002/05 and the Artist in the community studio award at the Fire Station 2005/06 and Pepinieres map XXL with Haus der architektur, Graz, Austria, 2006 and has been funded for independent art projects by Dublin City Council and the Arts Council of Ireland. In 2004 Rhona published the award winning publication home and the umbrella project 2006.
